Retro River evolved from 25+ years in marketing, advertising, and publishing, both agency-side and in-house.
A lot has changed in that time. Remember word processors, fax machines, mobile phones with aerials, and dial-up modems screeching as they connected to the internet?
Technology has surged ahead. Marketing has become sharper, more sophisticated. But one thing has never changed: get to know the customer.
That’s been my guiding principle from day one – whether I was working with a brand giant like Kellogg’s on the Crunchy Nut relaunch, or writing ads for a small bed shop in Wigan.
Know your customer, know your message.
Understanding your audience is everything. Who are they? What do they want? What keeps them up at night? What makes them say yes?
Every business – big or small – benefits from putting the customer at the heart of its message. When you do that, your ads, emails, and social posts stop being noise and start being meaningful. That’s when people listen. That’s when they trust you. And trust is what leads to action.
So I’ll ask a lot of questions (and keep the coffee flowing). I want to know you, your business, and your customers inside out – because that’s how we’ll find the right words that work.
